Everyone has their favorite character. Everyone wants their favorite character to be with the perfect man/elf/dwarf/vampire/wizard/werewolf/etc. BUT there seems to always be a canon character in the way (usually female)in the slash fandom. Most writers prefer to just ignore the situation...yet some decide to face the problem head on. These authors are hard to find but they are out there. One in particular has ripped my heart out and stomped on it time and time again. Crista.

Erestor/Glorfindel (my OTP): The most difficult canon love interest to overcome in this instance is actually another male...Ecthelion *cough**cough*. As Erestor/Glorfindel is my favorite pairing, I have set myself up to hate Ecthelion. I did not want to hate Ecthelion, in all fairness, he seems to be an all around beautiful and worthy elf...but he is no Erestor. What does an author do if he/she believes that at one point in time Glorfindel loved Ecthelion with a passion but he/she wants to write Erestor/Glorfindel?

Enter Crista. In Breaking Point, Crista deals with Erestor's unrequited love for Glorfindel and Glorfindel's desperate longing for his past love, Ecthelion. This is no fluffy, let's move on with our lives and love again story. This story is brutal and hard to read. Erestor gets his elf in the end but at what cost to himself, Glorfindel, Elrond and even the twins. Please, for your own sake, read the warnings.

Breaking Point is continued in Abandon which is even more brutal than its predecessor. Erestor must deal with the consequences of his actions in Breaking Point AND the return of Ecthelion. Drink lots of water before reading because you will be crying buckets. I have read both of these stories only once...let that be a warning to you.

Crista has also written three fics dealing with the Erestor/Elrond+Celebrian problem. Thirty Minutes, Sixty Minutes, and Time Stood Still. All Crista's fics are archived at the Library of Moria. Proceed with caution. :)

Read them both. They are unlike any I had read before. Your word 'brutal' is very accurate ... Abandon really was. I am so glad that you posted a link to Breaking Point and Abandon. I will never read them again, but am glad to have had the chance to do so.

I will try to link to whatever I rec because I know the frustration of trying to hunt down a fic. You're strong to have read both of them. I had to give myself a present and a pep talk to make it through Abandon.
